Medical Condition Ends Dupuis’ Career

Earlier this week, Pittsburgh Penguins’ Pascal Dupuis announced his retirement. Blood clots in his lung forced him to end his 15-year career.

The medical condition, found last year, left him sidelined for most of the last season. He was cleared to play this season where he had two goals and two assists in 18 games. Unfortunately, the pain returned, forcing him to leave many games this season.

“We’ve been talking about it for a little while,” Dupuis said during his announcement. “When I left the San Jose game after the second period, it made it more clear in my head that it was something that was weighing on me, my wife, my kids, the team and my teammates.

Dupuis made the decision to leave the game with his family. If it was up to him, he would continue. But his family is his priority.

The 36-year-old play 871 NHL games with the Penguins, Minnesota Wild, New York Rangers, and Atlanta Thrashers. Over his 15-year career, he has scored 190 goals and 409 points. He became a Stanley Cup champion with the Penguins in 2009.
