“The Golden Boy”, former champ, thirty-eight year old Oscar De La Hoya checked himself into rehab within the last couple of weeks. The East LA born boxer announced his retirement on April 14,2009, leaving a career where he won ten world titles in six different weight classes.
Oscar’s drug of choice was not revealed. But, after the embarrassing way he ended his career ( with a brutal beat down by Manny Pacquaio), I’m sure the drug was pretty strong.

The Cubs and Red Sox met at historic Fenway Park for the first time since 1918. The series was bound to be an exciting one. Two teams with the oldest ballparks in the game that have been tortured for years without a WS win ( until the Sox broke that curse in 2004.) The Red Sox routed the Cubs in the first game with a 15-5 win over the Cubbies. But, the Cubs wouldn’t go out like that, they came back to beat the Red Sox 9-3 in the second game of the series. The series has not been without it’s theatrics. Sox hurler Alfredo Aceves beaned Marlon Byrd in the second inning, a scary moment for all that was watching. Good news is that Byrd never loss consciousness and walked off the field under his own power. The series concludes tonight with a couple of spot starters on the mound. With Lackey and Garza out with their respective injuries, Tim Wakefield and James Russell are looking to take the mound. In 13 appearances, Russell is 1-4 with a 6.26 ERA. Forty-four year old Wakefield who will be only making his third start this season, is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA in 11 games this season. Offense will be the story tonight.

NBA and NHL playoffs are winding down. The Mavericks are up 2-1 in the series with OKC with one more gameĀ  in Oklahoma before heading back to Dallas. Defense has been the lead factor in the Heat-Bull series. The series is ties 1-1 going back to Miami, where Miami looks to stay undefeated on their home court in the playoffs. The habitually unlikeable Lebron James came up big in the second game of the Bulls series, while MVP Derrick Rose looked sluggish. I am picking Miami to win in this series and meet Dallas in the finals. San Jose is down 2-1 to Vancouver while the Lightening and Bruins are tied 2-2 in their east coast battle. Rookie Tyler Seguin has breathed new life into the Boston Bruins while Tampa has proven that they are up to the challenge. In today’s game Vancouver just netted three goals in 1:55 in the second and are now leading 4-1 in the third. My prediction is Vancouver-Boston in the Stanley Cup.

To be continued……
