When Did Real Life Start Acting Like A Fictional Show?

Pajamas. Check.

Big bowl of popcorn. Check.

Big comfy blanket to hide under. Check.

Great! Now I’m ready for Law and Order: SVU’s big premiere. And it looks like a good one. A man accused of rape.

The evidence is still very sketchy. All this talking and no action is really making it difficult for me to follow the storyline.

Did he do it or not? Forget that. The tale just got juicy. The DNA evidence was somehow leaked to the public. Now the rape kit has been tampered with? What else could go wrong? Let’s fast-forward to find out the ending.

Hold on, have I been watching ESPN the whole time? Wait, this is real?

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the plot of the Patrick Kane rape case has taken a weird, and perhaps, David Lynch-type twist. Recently, the DNA evidence from the rape kit was released claiming Kane’s DNA was not on the accuser, vaginally. However, his DNA was found under the accuser’s fingernails and on her shoulder.

This, of course, is shocking since these details were meant to be released during the trial. But we somehow expected it in a big case like this.

The real twist came when the accuser’s mother discovered a package on her front steps. “What in the box?!” we all cried out in our best 90s Pitt impression. It was the rape kit. What the flip? What does this mean?

According to the accuser’s attorney, Thomas Eoannou, he claims this proves the kit had been tampered with. Does this mean Kane has someone on the inside working for him? Is someone trying to divert the media away from the real case? Or is there someone out there who just really loves playing pranks?
We don’t know. And we’ll probably never know since Eoannou quit the case the next day! This is too much. There are way too many twists and turns happening in one week. My head is spinning. This kind of outrage storyline only happens in entertainment. The bizarre plot is one we would only see on soap operas. If so, I guess the next plot twists are they’re actually brother and sister, they find a stone that could destroy the earth, or one of them gets a rare and incurable disease.

This simple (well, not really) rape case has turned into an absolute circus. This could have easily been avoided. With such a big name attached, they should only have the best people involved. So why don’t we all sit back, take a deep breath, and wait for the grand jury to make a decision. Because we all know this episode is not going to end for a long time.

If not, join me in the fetal position in the corner fearing what’s going to happen next.

Note: I have never actually seen an episode of SVU. But from what I hear, they’re bound to make this into an episode.
